CTUK wins 2009 UTC EH&S Award for Safety Innovation
It gives me great pleasure to announce that the nomination submitted by Carrier Transicold United Kingdom has won the prestigious 2009 UTC EH&S Award for EH&S Innovation.
This unique safety harness system allows field service engineers to perform maintenance on truck mounted refrigeration units without compromising service time, quality or safety.
Awarded directly from the United Technologies EH&S team the brief for the UTC EH&S Innovation Award is "intended to encourage innovative solutions to the environmental, health or safety challenges faced by UTC business units. Intentionally broad in scope, this award will be given to the business unit that developed the most creative and effective environment, health or safety program, process, or system used to solve an unusually difficult environmental, health or safety challenge. The project may highlight a site-specific or regional solution and may be awarded as a partnership with a non-UTC entity such as a contractor or non-governmental organization."
Congratulations go to Ross Thomson Aftermarket Development Manager who spent a huge amount of time developing and deploying this system.

Waitrose Puts Vector® 1850 Refrigeration Systems with All-Electric Technology to the Test
With the delivery of 25 new trailers, each mounted with Carrier Transicold’s Vector® 1850 multi-temperature low-noise refrigeration systems, Waitrose has begun a major trial of Carrier’s innovative Vector technology within its 320-strong fleet of refrigerated trailers.
The specification of the Vector 1850 unit on each of the new 13.2 metre Gray & Adams trailers is the result of a decision by Waitrose Fleet Engineer Ray Collington to evaluate the front wall-mounted Carrier Transicold units in comparison with the undermount temperature controlled systems traditionally fitted across the fleet.
Commenting on the new trailers, Collington said: “We wanted to see how a regular front wall-mounted refrigeration unit would perform, so we worked closely with Carrier Transicold and Gray & Adams to design a trailer which would meet our bespoke requirements. Selecting the Vector 1850 system also allows us to put Carrier’s all-electric technology to the test for the first time.”
Carrier’s patented all-electric technology is designed to reduce the number of serviceable parts, such as belts, clutch and shaft seal, in every Vector 1850 refrigeration system to help lengthen the product life and enhance reliability. Furthermore, 94 per cent of the components used in a Vector 1850 unit can be recycled at the end of its operating life.
Each Vector 1850 offers unparalleled pull down and temperature control, with the unique ability to cool and heat at the same time. This enables Waitrose to accurately maintain different set points ranging from -30C to +32C in each of the trailer’s three compartments.
The temperature in the front compartment is regulated by the Vector 1850 host unit, with a powerful full-width dual-discharge evaporator, ensuring different set points are maintained in the centre and rear compartments.
The new trailers are operating from Waitrose’s regional distribution centre in Bracknell, Berkshire, making deliveries to Waitrose stores across southern England. These locations include both high street and suburban sites, with the Vector’s low noise kit ensuring sound emissions do not exceed 72 decibels.
Each trailer has been supplied with a 10-year Golden Cold® fixed cost repair and maintenance agreement. This includes all maintenance recommended by Carrier Transicold, carried out by manufacturer-trained technicians using genuine replacement parts, plus 24-hour breakdown assistance throughout the UK.
